On October 1, 2022 the United States War Crimes Rewards Program urged the public to surrender information leading to the arrest of Kony, who has been on the run for 15 years.

“Joseph Kony has been wanted for more than 15 years. You can help bring him to justice and get paid up to $ 5 million. 100% confidentiality.” The notice read.

Described at different times as a terrorist, prophet and brutal killer, General Kony, who is wanted for war crimes, has escaped capture for more than two decades. His rebel Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) is notorious for abducting thousands of children to use as soldiers or sex slaves

He is accused of terrorizing northern Uganda for 20 years and was ejected from the country along with his rebel group in 2005.

He is said to have kidnapped over 30,000 children to strengthen his army, forcing the boys to become soldiers and the girls to become sex slaves. Kony instructs the members of his LRA to abduct, threaten, destroy, and murder in the name of his spiritual powers.

Kony, armed ordered the LRA to attack villages, murdering, raping, and mutilating in a campaign of intimidation that displaced some two million people.

He claimed to receive prophesies from spirits in his dreams and children would be abducted and brainwashed into becoming his soldiers and slaves.

Children who resisted him were beaten to death by their peers and he turned his female captives into his wives.

The International Criminal Court wants him for war crimes. His militia is accused of abducting children to use as fighters and sex slaves, and of hacking off victims’ limbs as a method of intimidation and revenge. - Africa
