Simba beat CD de Agosto 3-1 in CAF Champions League

LUANDA, Angola

Tanzania’s Simba sports club have stepped one foot into the group stage of CAF Champions League after a 3-1 victory against Clube Desportivo 1ยบ de Agosto at Estadio 11 de Novembro in Angola on Sunday evening.

The Simba's native defender, Israel Mwenda (white) shoots to score the second goal

Clatous Chama, Israel Patrick Mwenda and Moses Phiri were heroes for the Msimbazi Reds after contributing one goal each to produce the massive triumph.

The goals of Simba SC were scored by the Zambian midfielder, Clatous Chama in the eighth minute, the native defender, Israel Mwenda in the 63rd minute and the Zambian striker, Moses Phiri in the 76th minute.

With the outcome, Simba have a big advantage to sail through to the last 16 ahead of their reverse clash at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam next Sunday.

The team that will be defeated will compete to play the groups of the
Federation Cup.

The hosts sourced the solitary goal in the 76th minute via a spot kick pumped in by Dago Tshibamba which was too little to save his side from escaping the huge defeat.

As such, they have a big mountain to climb during the return leg in the city where Simba are always lethal especially when it comes to decisive encounters.

For interim Head Coach Juma Mgunda, he continues with his superb performance at the helm of the club and he is just too close to navigate his side to the group stage.

Already, the Dar es Salaam city giants declared that their target is to storm into the semi-finals of the season’s champions league.

October 8th, 2022, another Tanzania club, Yanga SC were forced to draw 1-1 with Al Hilal Omdurman of Sudan in the first game of the 32nd Best African Champions League at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Yanga took the lead with the goal of their reliable striker, Fiston Kalala Mayele in the 50th minute, before El Hilal equalized through Mohamed Yousif in the 67th minute.

The teams will meet again on October 16, Sunday of next week at the Al-Hilal Stadium in Omdurman in Sudan and the overall winner will go to the group stage of the African Champions League. The team that will be defeated will go against the Confederation Cup team to compete in
the group stage of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) mini-championship. - Africa
