The
second batch of medical aids offered by Chinese government to Senegal was
received by Senegalese Minister of Health and Social Action, Abdoulaye Diouf
Sarr in Dakar.
During the reception ceremony, Sarr, on behalf of Senegalese
President Macky Sall and Senegalese government, thanked China for its
assistance and solidarity China has offered during his country’s fight against
COVID-19.
“The donation received includes essentially protective
equipments for our medial staff”, he said, adding that “this reflects China’s
friendship and solidarity to our country”.
Sarr also thanked Jack Ma Foundation, Alibaba Foundation and
Chinese companies based in Senegal for their donations.
For his part, Chinese Ambassador to Senegal Zhang Xun said China
is ready to accompany Senegal to the final victory by sharing its experiences
and providing more medical materials.
Calling COVID-19 a threat to people around the world and a huge
challenge to global public health, Zhang stressed “we can only defeat it with
concerted efforts and a collective response at the international level”.
“In this fight, China is very engaged to sincere and pragmatic
cooperation with the international community,” he added.
He also revealed the second donation offered by Jack MA,
consisting of testing kits and respirators, would arrive in a few days.
Wednesday’s donation also includes those coming from Chinese
companies based in Senegal.
Manager of Twyford Ceramic Zheng Mingzao told Xinhua “COVID-19 a
challenge for the whole human, so all of us have to fight together”.
The second batch of medical equipments donation was offered by
Chinese Ministry of Commerce and China International Development Cooperation
Agency.
This batch of donation, which arrived on April 20 in Senegal, includes
1,750 N95 masks, 10,000 surgical masks, 1,750 disposable coveralls, 350
infrared thermometers, 1,750 protection glasses, 9,750 pairs of disposable
nitrile gloves and 9,750 pairs of disposable shoe covers.
So far, Senegal has reported 442 confirmed cases of COVID-19
since March 2, the start of the pandemic in Senegal. Apart from six patients
deceased, Senegal has cured a total of 253 patients. - Africa
