Kitui Governor
Charity in Kenya, Charity Ngilu on Monday, February 17, 2020, asked Deputy
President William Ruto to resign from his position in government.
Through a statement posted on her social media, the Governor asked Ruto
to stop playing tricks with Kenyans through twitter and step aside to allow
room for investigation.
“The Deputy President should stop hoodwinking Kenyans through tweets and
do the honorable thing, STEP ASIDE and let investigations be conducted in an
impartial environment” read part of the statement.
In her statement, she claimed that the Deputy President broke the
people’s trust in his office which breached the security of the country.
This came as her view on claims linking the Deputy President to former
CS Rashid Echesa’s woes on a fake guns deal that allegedly took place in the
DP’s office.
“It is now evidently clear through
his own admission that these activities have been taking place in his office,
which he admitted in his tweet that the meeting took place albeit for 23
minutes” further stated the statement.
On Sunday, February 16, 2020, the Deputy President distanced himself
from the claims and stated that his office is not involved in procurement.
Through social media, Ruto stated that the office of the Deputy
President is not involved in procurement for any ministry or state department.
In the post, the Deputy President asked his supporters to get the facts
right to avoid being misinformed.
“ODP does NOT procure for any ministry/department. Question: other than
23min in Annex, for months, which government offices involved in the 'tender'
did the scammers visit? Did they access DOD? Who facilitated? Who did they
meet?”
“Get the truth. Forget the sponsored NONSENSE in media” posted Ruto.
On Saturday, February 15, 2020, Ruto rubbished the stories going around
about his involvement in Ex CS Rashid Echesa’s woes.
