Fifteen people travelling in a Kampala-bound min-bus have been killed in a road accident in Imanyiro village along the Musita-Lumino highway in Mayuge district some 118 Kilometres from Kampala.
The deceased who were vendors from Namayingo town council were travelling to Kampala in a min-bus with registration number UBD 089A. The accident occurred at around 5:00 am today according to police.
James Mubi, the Busoga East police spokesperson says that the min-bus which was over-speeding rammed into a stationary sugarcane truck, with registration number UWP 616 at Imanyiro.
The min-bus was carrying 17 passengers. However, two passengers survived with serious injuries and were rushed to Iganga general hospital.
Mubi warned sugarcane truck drivers against parking along the highway.
"Sugarcane trucks are not supposed to be parked along the highway as they reduce on the road size and obstruct other road users which results into accidents," he said.
He added, "we shall organize night patrols where all adamant truck drivers found of parking along the highway shall be arrested.” – Africa
