Fifteen people travelling in a
Kampala-bound min-bus have been killed in a road accident in Imanyiro village
along the Musita-Lumino highway in Mayuge district some 118 Kilometres from
Kampala.
The deceased who were vendors from Namayingo town
council were travelling to Kampala in a min-bus with registration number UBD
089A. The accident occurred at around 5:00 am today according to police.
James Mubi, the Busoga East police spokesperson
says that the min-bus which was over-speeding rammed into a stationary
sugarcane truck, with registration number UWP 616 at Imanyiro.
The min-bus was carrying 17 passengers.
However, two passengers survived with serious injuries and were rushed to
Iganga general hospital.
Mubi warned sugarcane truck drivers against parking
along the highway.
"Sugarcane trucks are not supposed to be
parked along the highway as they reduce on the road size and obstruct other
road users which results into accidents," he said.
He added, "we shall organize night patrols
where all adamant truck drivers found of parking along the highway shall be
arrested.” – Africa
