Battle for continental supremacy in CAF Super Cup on Saturday

CAIRO,  Egypt

African football fans are in for a treat on Saturday as Pyramids FC and RS Berkane prepare to collide in the ultimate battle for supremacy in the TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup in Cairo at 20h00 Local Time (17h00 GMT).

The 34th edition of the TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup that dates back to 1993 when Moroccan side Wydad AC faced Africa Sports d’Abidjan will once again pit winners of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League winners Pyramids FC and CAF Confederation Cup holders RS Berkane in a one-off battle for continental supremacy.

Pyramids FC have enjoyed a meteoric rise over the past few seasons. Once considered outsiders in African football, they achieved a historic breakthrough earlier this year by lifting the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League for the first time in the club’s young history. Their triumph over Mamelodi Sundowns in the final signalled the arrival of a new powerhouse on the continental stage.

Under Croatian coach Krunoslav Jurčić, Pyramids have developed a modern, attacking identity built on structure, precision, and pressing intensity – an approach that has brought both domestic and continental success.

Captain Ali Gabr leads with authority from the back, marshalling a defence that thrives on organisation and aerial dominance. Forward Fiston Mayele, one of the standout performers in their Champions League run, remains their key attacking weapon with his pace and clinical finishing.

Across the pitch stands RS Berkane, a team that has quietly become one of Africa’s most consistent performers. The Moroccan outfit enter the Super Cup as reigning CAF Confederation Cup champions and current Botola Pro League titleholders, the first league championship in their history.

Under the guidance of Tunisian coach Mouïn Chaâbani, Berkane have transformed into a tactically disciplined and mentally strong unit.

The Moroccan side are renowned for their compact shape and lethal use of set pieces — traits that make them a formidable opponent in high stakes encounters.

Leading the charge is captain Hamza El Moussaoui, whose defensive discipline and leadership inspire those around him. Partnered by dependable defender Abdelhak Assal and the energetic Chadrack Lukombe in attack, Berkane possess the balance to frustrate opponents.

Looking at the teams’ contrasting styles of play, Pyramids’ attacking ambition and home advantage will be tested by Berkane’s tactical precision and big-game mentality. Both coaches are renowned strategists who will look to outthink rather than outmuscle each other.

With continental prestige at stake, African football fans can expect a fiercely contested encounter set to be decided by the finest of margins in Cairo.
