Uganda’s Express FC have this evening lifted the regional CECAFA Kagame Cup 2021.
The Red Eagles as they are known needed one goal to silence guest side Nyasa Big Bullets FC in the final played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Martin Kizza was the hero when he slotted in a well taken Eric Kambale cross after 22 minutes. Nyasa Big Bullets had come close after 16 minutes, but Gomezhani Chirwa blasted wide. Bright Munthali also had a chance for the guest side, but missed the target.
In the second half the Nyasa Big Bullets side pushed forward, but found the Express FC backline air tight and alert. Later Chimwemwe Idana and substitute Hassan Kajoke had opportunities for the Malawi Premier League champions, but failed to find the net.
It was all celebration for the Express FC team after thye final whistle. “This is a very sweet win because the boys have worked hard. I am happy that from all the five matches we did not suufer defeat,” said Express coach Wasswa Bbosa.
Souleiman Hassan Waberi, CAF’s Vice President and President of the Djibouti Football Federation, Moses Hassim Magogo, a CAF Executive member and President of the Uganda FA and CECAFA and Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) President, Wallace Karia all graced the final.
The wining team will take home US$30,000, while the runners up pocket US$20,000 and the third placed KMKM Sc of Zanzibar will get US$10,000.
