ENTEBBE, Uganda
Seven people perished in Lake Victoria after a boat capsized on their way from Lwanabatya Landing Site in Kyamuswa Sub County Kalangala District, to Kasenyi Landing site in Entebbe.
The accident is reported to
have occurred on Sunday January 24 night at 2am between Lwanabatya and Jjaana
Landing sites as nine people were sailing in a canoe boat.
Four women and three
children drowned after heavy winds blew their boat.
The deceased include Gloria
Amito, Grace Amito, Irene Amia, Caroline Afoyoloti and three Children; one aged
4 years and 2 others aged 2 years each.
Out of the 9, two men
including the coxwine survived after holding tight, on the fuel Jerri can and
fuel tank.
The survivors include
Lawrence Nzage the coxiwine and Patrick Lubulwa, all residents of Lwanabatya
Landing Site in Kalangala District.
The deceased were
reportedly heading to their home district of Masindi while Amito Grace and
Afoloyoti Caroline were heading to Nebbi District all with their
children.
The bodies are still
missing as the search continues.
