Tanzania to dissolve parliament on June 19

Speaker of Parliament, Job Ndugai
Dodoma, TANZANIA

Tanzania will dissolve parliament on June 19, the country's Speaker of Parliament, Job Ndugai, announced in the country's capital Dodoma on Monday.

He said the east African nation's budget will be tabled on June 11, the same date when other East African Community (EAC) member states of Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and South Sudan will table their budgets.

Burundi, also member of the EAC, will not table its national budget because the country is under campaigns for the forthcoming elections.

Ndugai said the date of tabling national budgets for the five EAC member states was set after EAC finance ministers agreed that June 11 was the most suitable date for all the five countries.

Tanzania is scheduled to conduct its general elections in October 2020 to elect the President, Members of Parliament and Councillors.
