The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has decided to remove Ousmane Keïta, head of its Disciplinary Committee, from all proceedings linked to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final between Morocco and Senegal, according to Egyptian journalist Mohamed Saïd, who is close to the inner workings of the CAF.
The decision comes as CAF continues to review the controversial incidents that overshadowed the final, which Senegal won 1-0 after extra time. The match was marked by on-field protests, tense exchanges, and scenes that sparked widespread debate across African football.
According to reports, Keïta—who is Senegalese—was sidelined to avoid any perception of a conflict of interest and to ensure the disciplinary process remains transparent and credible.
CAF’s Kenyan vice-president has now been appointed to oversee the case and guide the investigation forward.
CAF is currently examining match reports, video footage, and other documentation related to the final, with potential disciplinary measures still under consideration.
The governing body has reiterated its commitment to protecting the integrity of the competition and respecting the authority of match officials.
No final decisions or sanctions have been announced yet, but CAF is expected to conclude its review in the coming days, following one of the most controversial endings to an AFCON final in recent years.
