DODOMA, Tanzania
President of Tanzania, Samia Hassan, has established a Commission of Inquiry to probe into protests, violence and deaths occurred during and after the lections on October 29, this year.
According to a statement released today, November 18, 2025, by Chief Secretary, Moses Kusiluka, President Hassan has appointed the retired Chief Justice of Tanzania, Mohammed Othman, as the Chairperson of the Commission.
According to the statement, the commission will also consist of various members with extensive experience in governance, security, and legal matters.
Among them are retired Chief Justice Professor Ibrahimu Khamis, former Chief Secretary Ombeni Sefue, and Ambassador Radhia Msuya.
Other appointed members include General Paul Meela, retired Inspector General of Police Said Mwema, Ambassador David Kapya, and Stergomena Tax, the former Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and immediate former Minister for defence.
The commission is expected to begin its work immediately.
The Vice Chairman of the leading opposition party (CHADEMA), John Heche has downplayed the appointment as a "joke" and failure to honour the protesters who were shot dead by security officers.
"This is a joke and a failure to respect the blood of Tanzanians." Heche posted on X platform.
