BAHIR DAR, Ethiopia
Tanzania’s first choice goalkeeper Boniface Mnata Metacha will miss the semi-final clash against South Sudan on Tuesday at the on-going CECAFA U-23 Challenge Cup in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia.
Metacha (pictured above) is suspended for the match after
accumulating two yellow cards in the group games against guest side Democratic
Republic of Congo and Uganda.
Tanzania’s technical bench will now have
to adjust and make a decision to use Daniel Johannes Mgore or Wilbol Maseke
Changarawe.
“It’s unfortunate that Metacha will miss
the semi-final clash because he put up a good show in the two games. But we
shall adjust the team accordingly,” Kim Poulsen, the Tanzanian head coach told
Cecafaonline.com.
To reach the semi-final stage Tanzania defeated DR Congo 1-0 and went on to hold Uganda to a 1-1 draw. Their opponents South Sudan started with a 2-0 defeat to Kenya’s Emerging Stars, and later stopped Djibouti 2-0.
The other player suspended after
accumulating two yellow cards is Ethiopia’s William Solomon Tesfaye who will be
out of a classification match against Eritrea today. Guest side DR Congo will
also battle Uganda in another classification match later today.
The regional tournament which opened the
2021 CECAFA calendar will climax on July 30th with the final.
