Ugandan man marries seven wives on same day

MUKONO, Uganda

A 43-year-old medicine man from Namasengere village in Uganda's Mukono District recently made headlines after meeting the parents of his seven would-be wives in the span of a week.

Habib Nsikonnene would go even further by becoming one with his seven fiancés, two of whom are blood sisters, on the same day following lavish traditional Muslim weddings (Nikkah) hosted at each bride's home.

Nsikonnene, who is said to have deep pockets by local standards, would then host all his seven wives and their friends and family on Sunday at a memorable reception ceremony held at his home before moving in with all of his spouses.

His marriage convoy reportedly had approximately 40 vehicles and 30 motorcycles as per area residents who say that Nsikonnene's business rakes in loads of money.

To area residents, Nsikonnene has become somewhat of a cult hero after putting his remote village on the map.

"This man with rare qualities (Nsikonnene) settled in this village about four years ago. He came and bought land here and introduced himself to me as a traditional healer. We allowed him to practice his trade," Emmanuel Owere, the Namasengere Village chairperson, is quoted as saying by The Monitor.

"When he settled here, little did we know that he would bring us fame. Our village name is trending everywhere."

The village chair now wants to name a road in the area after Nsikonnene.

"He is a rare man because given his status in society, he has been mingling with everyone. He is a hard worker and locals should emulate him," said Owere.
