Burundian terrorist working in Mozambique captured

MAPUTO, Mozambique

The Mozambican police have taken into custody a Burundian citizen who claims that he had been recruited by the islamist terrorists operating in the northern province of Cabo Delgado.

According to a report in Monday’s issue of the independent newssheet “Mediafax”, the 51 year old Burundian, who said his name is Laser Makumbi, was captured in Nanjaua village, in the district of Ancuabe, by members of the peasant militia, known as the Naparamas.

When interrogated by the police, he said he only speaks English. He said he left Burundi for Mozambique under a contract to fight alongside the jihadists known locally as “Al Shabaab” against the Mozambican armed forces and their allies.

The report describes him as a sniper, who had been fighting with the terrorists for the past four years.

Makumbi said he had been abandoned at a military base in Macomia district, while he was sleeping. Shortly afterward he was captured by the Mozambican forces, who supposedly tortured him.

He was then dumped in the bush again, but he managed to recover from his beating and continued walking until last week he was seized by a group of Naparamas.

He was questioned first at the Nanjaua police post, and then transferred to the Ancuabe district police command.

Foreigners, including Burundians, have long been known to be fighting inside the Mozambican jihadist ranks – but this is the first time any of them have claimed to be working under contract.
