Leaked files reveal UN Boss doesn't trust president Ruto

NEW YORK, US

Ruthless and untrustworthy – these are the words the United Nations Deputy Secretary General (SG) Amina Jane Mohammed reportedly used to describe President William Ruto to her boss Antonio Guterres, the Secretary General of the United Nations.

The candid conversation was revealed in secret files from the United States security agencies that were leaked online.

The conversation happened in a February meeting between the two UN bosses.

In the leaked documents, Mohammed confessed to Guterres that Ruto is “ruthless’ and that she "doesn't trust him."

This is bound to cause jitters as Kenya is one of the four countries in the world with United Nations headquarters.

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) was founded in June 1972 and is headquartered in Gigiri, Nairobi.

Previously, the 61-year-old Nigerian diplomat met Ruto at State House on October 5, 2022, where they discussed the impact of climate change.

The leaked documents first appeared on Discord – a social media platform popular among gamers.

This revelation counters US President Joe Biden’s trust in Ruto and his administration.

In a letter dated February 6 by US Ambassador Meg Whitman to Biden's Advisory Council of Doing Business in Africa, she described Ruto as a smart and reforms-oriented man.

In the letter seen by by our reporter, Whitman outlined Ruto's peace-making efforts in Ethiopia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

"The New President, William Ruto, is very strong. He is smart, strategic, and gets things done. He is hands-on and easy to work with.

"He understands that economic growth and development is the way forward and has set a vision for accelerating Kenya's drive to achieve upper middle-income country status by 2030," she stated.

President Ruto met Antonio Guterres in New York, USA, in September 2022 after becoming Kenya's 5th Head of State.

Ruto was leading Kenya's delegation at the 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

UN Deputy SG Amina Jane Mohammed was born in Liverpool, England, to a Nigerian father and a British mother in 1961.

She served three Nigerian presidents rising to become Federal Minister of Environment under President Muhammadu Buhari from November 2015 to February 2017.

She also served as a Special Adviser to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in 2015.
