MAPUTO, Mozambique
A group of terrorists killed and beheaded three people on Tuesday, in an attack against the village of Mitope, in Mocimboa da Praia district, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado.
According to survivors, cited by the Portuguese news agency Lusa, the terrorists also kidnapped eight women and two children.
"We were surprised on Tuesday at about 18.00”, said one 69 year old man.. “The terrorists appeared and beheaded three people. One was my neighbor, and the other two were members of the local militia”.
The survivors walked overnight to the small town of Awasse in search of security. They told reporters they did not know where the jihadists had taken their captives.
After the attack, the militia members met, and warned the authorities, requesting reinforcements.“We are working so that this does not happen again”, one of them said. “We shall not rest until peace returns to Mitope”.
