Mozambique government to build 250 houses for liberation veterans

MAPUTO, Mozambique

Mozambique president and president of ruling party (Frelimo), Filipe Nyusi revealed at the opening of the third Ordinary Session of the Association of National Liberation Struggle Combatants (ACLLIN), that the Mozambican government will build a further 250 houses for veterans of the national liberation struggle by 2023.

At the opening of the ACLLN session, party president Filipe Nyusi began by describing the security situation in the centre of the country and in the province of Cabo Delgado.

In both conflicts [Cabo Delgado and centre], Nyusi noted, there were displaced combatants reliving war scenarios. This was unacceptable, and ACLLIN must act, he said.

To the liberators of the motherland the president of Frelimo revealed that a total of 89,028 pensions were registered and set, with the government having closed  the setting of veterans’ pensions through testimony, via Decree 53/2020 of 3 June.

Still on the benefits allotted to the men and women who liberated the country, Filipe Nyusi spoke of the houses already built and yet to be built for combatants with profound disabilities, in addition to the distribution of compensation in all the provinces.

To these had been added decorations for combatants, with the Veteran Medal of National Liberation Struggle issued to recognise and honour those who liberated the country. By February of this year, 5,511 veterans had received the decoration.
