SUDAN SENDS AID TO SOUTH SUDAN TO SUPPORT SECURITY ARRANGEMENTS

Sudan government has sent its aid shipment to Juba as part of regional efforts to support the implementation of the security arrangements in South Sudan, a Sudanese official said.

The head of the Joint Transitional Security Committee (JTSC), Gen. Riny Tueny Mabor received the plane on arrival in the capital, Juba.

The shipment of aid, including military boots and uniforms, arrived in Juba on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters at the airport, Sudan’s Ambassador to Juba, Adil Ibrahim Mustafa has pledged his country’s support for South Sudan’s quest to regain political and security stability.

He said Sudan will continue to support South Sudan and its role will increase after it assumed leadership of the East African regional bloc IGAD.

For his part, Gen. Riny Tueny Mabor thanked the Sudanese government for supporting the peace process in South Sudan, saying that the shipment of aid affirms the seriousness of Sudan government to ensure peace in South Sudan.

He reiterated Juba’s commitment to implement the revitalized peace agreement, stressing that peace and stability in South Sudan will positively reflect on Sudan’s situation.

The rival parties in South Sudan have twice failed to form a unity government, first in May 2019 and then in November the same year, when they agreed to a 100-day-long extension to resolve outstanding issues and establish the government by February 22.

Under the terms of the peace deal, South Sudan’s rival leaders are to create a unified army and agree on the number of states and their boundaries. – Africa
